SCD. what the hell is SCD? Spinocerebellar Degeneration, or Spinocerebellar Atrophy. a very cruel disease indeed, for the mind is not affected at all.
our normal movements are controlled mainly by our spinal cord and cerebellum, a fine mass of tissue somewhere in the lower back of our brain. SCD is a disease that slowly eats the neurons in the brains and 'break' the nerves, causing the cerebellum to shrink. the first stage of SCD is staggering. sufferers would first walk unbalancely, and would often fall. some of their falls would not be blocked by their hands and they would fall head first. compared to a sufferer, a healthy person would instinctively put out their hands to block their fall. a sufferer, however, would probably not. after that, a sufferer's movements would slowly be limited and basic things a healthy person takes for granted, like even swallowing would be difficult to do without choking.
i wish a cure would be found soon. it hurts to know that this type if disease is still alive and kicking during our time and age.
how do you get this disease? i think it's hereditary somehow. i think only lahh.. it's ermm.. homozygous recessive. so.. faham faham je la..
